Another Exciting Week With The Happy Wanderer

Sunday we took my youngest to camp Naturally despite my
insisting that we both need a break I miss her like crazy,
so of course I write to her every day.... her response? Well,
I hope I still have a kid cause she has not even sent
so much as a postcard!!!

So with the "baby" at camp, I decided to send Andre to
his mom's for a few days so that I could truly have the house
all to myself, now you do know this means I was bored
to tears right? It also required my getting a little friendlier
with Socrates the Snake. ICK! No, I didn't have to feed him,
I'm just NOT gonna do that, I am not interested in feeding
live mice to anything, how repulsive! Needless to say the
boy came home today to do feed Mr. Socrates.

I finally went to the psychiatrist Monday, okay well, actually
the clinical social worker, don't ya all just love these darn
HMO's? I had to get an evaluation even though I know very
well I'm depressed. I'm glad I went though, he agreed with most of my
self-evaluation, so even if I'm eternally melancholy, at least I'm
not completely unaware of myself. He set up an appointment for the psychiatrist,
but meanwhile I have to live for a month more with no medication
to alleviate this permanent sadness. You can see my depression recovery journal if you're
interested in following along on my "recovery"

Now...what does one do after one visits their friendly neighborhood shrink? Goes shopping of course! Being broke I went window shopping over to Best Buy and salivated over some new computers. I know the Sony may not be the best, and I know it is a silly reason to want a computer, but I LOVE the way the Sony VAIO looks, I know, you buy a computer based on your techno nerdy needs, but can I have attractive to look at as part of my needs?

I have a new project! After getting terribly sick to my stomach while
cleaning the house one day I realized I wanted to start cleaning
with safer products. So I ordered some books on natural cleansers, and
I'm happily anticipating making my own household cleansers. It
seems to me it will be much cheaper, much healthier and much less
irritating to clean with essential oils, herbs and good old baking soda!

How does this sound for a simple and fresh smelling cleanser?
Hardwood Floor Wash
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups vinegar
20 drops peppermint essential oil
Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. Use sparingly working on small sections of the floor. Dry mop after washing.

I also RE-discovered a great store here in NYC called Aphrodisia, they
sell essential oils and herbs and the sort of things one needs to make
the "recipes" in these books. Check out their web site>

I had just fallen asleep Wednesday night (okay it was really Thursday morning) when a detective knocked on my door. Someone fell off the roof! Everyone keeps telling me I know who it is, but I can't figure out for the life of me who that person was. They were apparently drinking, the cop said he fell off the roof, the newspaper said he fell out the 5th floor window. The whole thing was a little bizarre.

Friday I had ANOTHER job interview in Albany. The job isn't exactly
a dream job, and Albany isn't my dream town but it pays a LOT more
money and it means no more client contact, which right now sounds pretty good.
The job is with OTDA, this is the 3rd time they've called me for an
interview so I hope I finally get it, otherwise I guess
I'll forget about them, since I'll start to feel completely insecure
if I get rejected again.

When I got there for the interview there was
some emergency going on so I had to wait
to see the personnel director, I went
out for a while to walk around the city,
the weather was great, and I had seen this
spectacular belltower from the window of
the OTDA office so I headed over in that
direction and found St. Mary's RC church. This place
was incredibly beautiful, about 200 years old
and featuring the most amazing artwork. I
sat there for awhile, until it was time to head
back to the office for my interview. I'm not
Catholic, but the beauty of the sanctuary
moved me so very much. Mass had ended, and it
was no Holy day, but people came in and out,
praying and lost in thought, I am in awe
of that kind of faith. I felt very good in
there, as I generally do in church, and I truly
love any church in an urban area which does not
fear leaving their sanctuary doors open for those
in need of prayer.

Today I'm just flopping around, alternating between cleaning my messy house, which is slowly getting better!, playing on my computer and just
laying on my bed. Everyone needs some time like this, where there is nothing mandatory to get done.
I need to do laundry, but I think I'll save it for tomorrow when there will be even less people in
the laundromat. My room finally feels airy and clean again, it's a big space, but I manage to
clutter it up regularly. This week I'm going to get some plants for the big window, I'm thinking
if I get a bunch of spider plants and hang them at various lengths I can do away with those
dust attracting curtains. It might take too many plants though, the window is about 6 feet
across and 4 feet tall, maybe I would have to hang from the top, as well as put them on a shelf
across the middle. Anyway let's see if I get that done! :o)
