The heat has finally broken after a week of vegetating in the soup that has been NYC this week.

Did you want to see what I spent the heat week home watching on TV?
Can You Stand The Heat?

I'm Just Really NOT in love with the Heat! We spent the week trying to keep as many appliances turned off as possible. NYC is NEVER 101, I don't know what God is trying to prove but I have to say it was a most unpleasant week. I have the misfortune of no air-conditioning I actually worked comp time this week, more because it was nice and cool at work than wanting the extra hours, then again with all my depression angst this past year or so I've used up virtually all my time and I suppose it might be a good idea to get some extra time on the books anyway.

With the heat so high the kids tried to go to the pool, but the place got so crowded, the first day of the week fights broke out, and the kids had enough sense not to stay after everyone got kicked out of the pool. They were going to let everyone back in, but they know my feelings, once it gets hot and crowded enough in the city to make tempers flare it's time to come home and use the bathtub as a swimming pool! I live in an old building, so the bathtub is nice and BIG. We filled it up with cold water and ice cubes. It's amazing how much sticking your feet in a tub of cold water can help cool a body off!. Plus it's just off the wall enough for the kids (especially that 8 year old with her overly jaded self) to enjoy it..

All usual activites were off, we skipped the freebie concerts and hanging out in the parks this week. Laying about in front of the TV was basically our activity of choice. The snake shed his skin again, that's how hot we were, we sat around watching the snak shed (it's not a speedy process) YUCK! I suppose that means that he's getting bigger ICK! Time for a bigger cage from our friendly neighborhood reptilian specialists. Actually I love this pet store Pet A Believe It, they have the most beautiful birds I have ever seen, all hand fed and gorgeous. I suppose the snakes are rather lovely, if you're into that sort of thing.

Other than lounging around with ice cubes on my head I re-read a few books (The Makioka Sisters, In The Name of Salome and The House of the Spirits) Finally got myself to the shrink about my depression, got a prescription for effexor which made the pharmacist at the drugstore where I've going for SEVEN years tilt his head to the side and say in that odd "you're crazy" voice "Do you need one for today" when the scrip wasn't ready the next morning before work. I'm keeping another journal about my depression and (hope for) recovery. I feel better already, the med descriptions say some people feel some effects of the meds in the 1st 2 weeks, but it really takes about 6 weeks to know if they're working. I know one thing, I'm finally sleeping a little more, which may just be the relief of finally doing something about it! But enough of that, that's for the other journal. We put a lot of work this week into my baby's web pages. She's learning the codes too, so except for the majorly difficult sailor moon front page she handled a lot of the other work herself. Which means she smarter than me? (Or maybe being born into the age of home computers make you automatically more adept?) it took me a few years to even figure out what HTML could do, she took to it in a heartbeat.
