It's been an animal kind of week so this seemed like a great background for the moment!

We went to see Planet of the Apes Sunday, at Alex's request. I think they were rather amused to discover that I LOVED the series Planet of the Apes on TV back in the 70's, and that one Christmas my aunt gave me 3 Planet of the Ape dolls, I forget which 3 they were now, but I should have saved them, like every thing else they're probably collector's items. The kids enjoyed the show, even though we went to the icky old movie theater where the a/c never works right, the popcorn is stale and the place is DIRTY! But I was not in the mood to pay the Manhattan movie prices (we pay $5.50 here for matinees, in Manhattan it's $9) Maybe I'm growing a Sci-Fi fan? It wasn't bad, the kids got the assorted moral view points. We had lunch at Boston Chicken and walking back to the train we ran into my mom who gave us a ride to the train station and saved us a lot of walking.

My stepson went to the doctor last week, where we found out he is now 6'1" (and at 15 I suppose he has a few more years to grow!) We had to run back for some tests Monday and other than that the kids basically flopped around the house, went to the pool and harassed me for icee money. We finally got Alex's new glasses Thursday, (she broke the 1st pair at camp) They didn't have purple so she had to settle for brown, I think they look better actually. Then we went over to our Petsmart to look around and check out some prices. Alex got a new Goldfish, he's a Black Moor and she named him Braveheart. The last of her guppies went on to better waters last week. The petsmart fish people were surprised to discover the feeder fish had lived so many months, after all they are really just meant as food for larger creatures :( Anyway Braveheart is swimming around in the 2 gallon tank, but since Socrates (remember the snake?) is outgrowing his 10 gallon we'll move the fishie into it next week.

Friday my baby went to spend a week with Grandma and her sister. (My oldest is living with grandma)She'll be in her glory I know, making grandma entertain her with one arts and crafts project after another, and going to Vacation Bible School at Grandmas church. It's so nice to have older kids to help out :) Andre took her over to my moms and then went on to the pet store to get the snake his food (YUCK!) Then we went out and had ourselves a little shopping expedition back at Petsmart, Socrates is now happy in his new 20 gallon home, but he STILL spends his life under the water dish! I'm getting ready now to scrub out the tank and get it ready for Braveheart...and silly me, I was looking at the cats up for adoption at Petsmart (one of our local animal welfare organizations uses space there to show the cats available) I saw 2 pretty white kitties that they want to go together so, as if I own a farm instead of living in an apartment I decided to put in an application for them. They're names are Summer and Schuyler I'm waiting to hear from the adoption folks soon. That application for a cat adoption had more questions on it than a loan application!

Today I worked overtime and one of my bosses had her beautiful parrot with her. She just told me someone is looking for an adoptive home for a couple cockatiels and someone else has a conure so I told her to let me know that I'd be glad to take either. I love cockatiels, unfortunately the ex kept his when he left :(

Oh well that's it for another exciting week (okay typical) here on the homefront! Here's some pics from the summer!
